Pick a route, then change anything that's different for your trip. The calculator uses the same line items, rates and sources as our Real Cost pages and shows a low–high range for the whole trip. With the default settings it gives the same totals as the matching cost page. Flights are not included.

Low = cheapest reasonable choices; high = peak rates with every fee. Most trips land in between. The headline is rounded to the nearest $100; the table shows each line and the exact sum.
These are estimates [A] built from published price guides, a fleet fee sheet, NPS and Recreation.gov fees, and AAA fuel averages, all checked 2026-10-27. They are not a live quote. Prices change; get two or three real quotes for your dates before you book.
How the calculator works
- Rental: the cost page's range for your route and vehicle, turned into a daily rate × your days. The season setting uses the lower half (off-peak), the middle (shoulder) or the upper half (peak) of that range. That split is our assumption [A]; RVshare says peak season costs 30–50% more than off-season.
- Mileage and fuel: $0 if miles are unlimited, otherwise $0.39 a mile (fleet example). Fuel = miles ÷ mpg × AAA state averages for the route (checked 2026-10-27); the high end for a campervan assumes diesel.
- Campgrounds: the cost page's nightly range × nights. Low = park sites from Recreation.gov, high = private RV parks with hookups [A].
- Park entry and the pass check: US residents pay per vehicle ($35 each at Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon, for example) or $80 for the annual pass. Visitors from outside the US pay the vehicle fee plus $100 per person (16+) at Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Rocky Mountain, or $250 for the Non-Resident Annual Pass, which covers everyone in one private vehicle. The calculator works out both for your group and route and uses the cheaper one for the low and the high end; the Pass check box shows the sum. Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef charge no surcharge. Rules as published for 2026 (sources).
- Kits, insurance, taxes: fleet kits ($50 prep, $125 vehicle kit, $75 per person, $8 a night for the generator), $25–40 a day of cover for a campervan and $30–50 for a Class C, local rental tax plus a 10–12% marketplace service fee.
- Transfer and one-way: taxi or rideshare between the airport and the depot, both ways [A — not checked]. One-way fees come from the Cruise America chart ($350–750).
- Save and share: the page address changes as you type, so a bookmark or the Copy link to this estimate button brings back the same trip. Your last inputs are also kept in this browser (local storage, never sent to us; Reset to route defaults deletes them). Details in our privacy policy.
