Most trips on this route begin in a depot lot near the airport, walking around a stranger's motorhome and photographing its scratches. By the next afternoon, the sandstone walls of Zion Canyon rise on both sides of the road into Springdale, and the Watchman turns orange above the campground at sunset. Few fly-in road trips get you from runway to red rock this fast.
Las Vegas (LAS) is the most common fly-in base for a Southwest national park loop. Flights are plentiful, many RV and campervan pickup depots sit within a short taxi ride of the airport, and Zion is close enough that you can sleep inside the park area on night one.
Quick answer
- Best for: 7–12 day loops through Zion, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon.
- Typical loop: LAS → Zion → Bryce Canyon → Grand Canyon (South Rim) → LAS, roughly 900–1,100 miles [A].
- Realistic all-in cost, 10 days, 2 people: about $2,000–5,800 by campervan or $2,800–7,300 by Class C for US residents; $2,200–6,000 / $2,900–7,500 if you live outside the US [A], the cost table below rounded outward to the nearest $100.
- Book early: park campgrounds for spring and summer fill fast. Check the reservation window for each campground on Recreation.gov before you lock the rental dates.
- Flying in from abroad? Licence, age, deposit and a ready-to-book checklist, then check whether you can pick up the day you land.

When to go? Heat, snow, road and campground seasons, month by month: best time for Zion, Bryce & the Grand Canyon.
Seen the big parks, or want something stranger? The Extraterrestrial Highway loop: Rachel, Tonopah and the Rhyolite ghost town, 5 days by RV.
Or south into the California desert? The Integratron, Joshua Tree, the Salton Sea, Salvation Mountain and London Bridge: an unusual 6-day RV loop from Las Vegas, October to April.
Tunnel note for Zion: since June 7, 2026, vehicles over 11 ft 4 in tall, 7 ft 10 in wide (mirrors included) or 35 ft 9 in long may not drive the Zion–Mt. Carmel Highway east toward Bryce Canyon; the old tunnel escort system is gone. The detour via UT-20 adds about 63 miles and ~42 minutes (NPS, checked 2026-10-27: go.nps.gov/ZMCH). Details in our day-by-day itinerary.
North Rim note: the North Rim is open only part of the year and has had closures. This route uses the South Rim. Check nps.gov/grca for current North Rim status before planning around it.

For reference: RVshare reports an average booking value of about $900 (checked 2026-10-26), which fits a shorter trip or an off-peak week.
Marketplace or fleet out of Las Vegas?
Both work from LAS. Peer-to-peer marketplaces give you more vehicle choice and sometimes delivery to your hotel. Fleet depots give you standard vehicles, standard check-in times and easier one-way options. See our full comparison: Marketplace vs. fleet RV rental.

Campsites: what to book, and when it opens
On this loop the campgrounds set your dates. Book the 6-month ones first, then the RV for exactly those nights. Most open at 10 am Eastern on the opening day (16:00 in Berlin for most of the year).
| Campground | How to book | Window opens | Max RV length | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Watchman (Zion) | Recreation.gov | 6 months | RVs only in electric loops A/B; C/D: nothing 19 ft+ | Full almost every night mid-March to late November; no generators; no full hookups; ID must match the booking |
| South (Zion) | Recreation.gov | 14 days (+ up to 2 nights beyond) | Per site [A — check the site page] | Seasonal; no hookups; generators at set hours; bookings past the 14-day window can't be changed |
| North Campground (Bryce) | Recreation.gov | 6 months | Per site [A] | Open all year; RV loops; campgrounds can fill by noon on weekends May–Oct |
| Sunset (Bryce) | Recreation.gov | 14 days | Per site [A] | Closed in winter (2026: open from March 25, peak season to October 11) |

| Desert View (South Rim, east end) | Recreation.gov, reservation required | 6 months; 2027 season Apr 10 – Oct 15 | 30 ft | No hookups, no dump station; 26 miles from the village |
| Trailer Village (South Rim) | — | — | — | Closed until further notice (Stage 4 water restrictions); don't plan on hookups in the park |
Watchman or South?
- Watchman is the one to book with an RV: 6-month window, electric hookups in loops A and B, a dump station with water at the entrance — and the busiest campground on the route.
- South opens only 14 days ahead, has no hookups at all, and closes seasonally. It is a backup if Watchman is full, not a plan A.
- Both sit at the South Entrance next to Springdale and the shuttle. Vehicles over 35'9" long, 11'4" tall or 7'10" wide must use the South Entrance both ways (no Zion–Mount Carmel tunnel).
How the windows work: release times, a date calculator, the 15-minute cart, cancellation alerts and BLM back-ups are in our Recreation.gov guide.

Before you book
- Fix your campground nights first, then book the RV for those dates.
- Ask for the full fee sheet: mileage, generator hours, kitchen/bedding kits, cleaning, late return.
- Check pickup and drop-off times against your flight times. Many depots do afternoon pickups only [A].
- Pack light, in soft bags. RV storage is small.
- Visiting from outside the US? Check licence, age and deposit rules first: renting an RV from abroad + ready-to-book checklist.
- Different days, group or season? Get a ballpark with the trip cost calculator.
