Phoenix adds a line the other airports don't: the highest rental tax of our five hubs, 16.55% on the base rate. The Grand Canyon, by contrast, is a single $35 vehicle fee for the week. Between those two numbers sit fuel, three nights at Mather and the RV parks on either side of it.
What does a 7-day fly-in RV trip from Phoenix to Sedona and the Grand Canyon South Rim really cost for two people — once mileage, fuel, campgrounds, fees and the airport transfer are in? Below: every line, for a campervan and a Class C, with a check date and a source.
Quick answer
- Campervan, 7 days, 2 people: about $1,400–$4,200 all-in for US residents, $1,600–$4,400 if you live outside the US [A].
- Class C, 7 days, 2 people: about $1,900–$5,200 (US residents) or $2,100–$5,400 (visitors from outside the US) [A]. Ranges are the table totals rounded outward to the nearest $100.
- Biggest swing factor: the season — summer heat in Phoenix, spring and autumn demand at the South Rim — and, in 2026, the South Rim water emergency, which removes the only in-park hookups. Phoenix rental tax (16.55% on the fleet fee sheet) also adds more than at the other hubs.
- Not in these totals: flights, food and activities. Groceries for two, cooking mostly in the RV, add roughly $245–$490 [A — our estimate, not checked against a source].
- Prices checked: 2026-10-27.
Cost table (7 days, 2 people)
Low = off-peak, cheapest reasonable choices. High = peak season with every fee — most trips land in between. Ranges are for the whole trip, not per night.
| Item | Campervan | Class C | What drives it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicle rental (base rate) | $700–$1,700 | $1,000–$2,400 | ≈ $100–240 a night for a campervan, $140–340 for a Class C [A]. Benchmarks: Outdoorsy $100–175 / $150–250 a night; Go RV US average March 2026 $252 / $225; RVshare: peak season 30–50% higher. Fleet example: 7-night minimum |
| Mileage (~550–700 mi) | $0–$270 | $0–$270 | $0 if unlimited miles are included (common on marketplace listings); a fleet example charges $0.39 a mile, so ~700 mi ≈ $270. Its unlimited package is $845 for up to 21 days — only worth it on long routes [A] |
| Fuel | $120–$330 | $210–$430 | Campervan 15–20 mpg, Class C 8–12 mpg [A] × route miles × AAA averages on this route checked 2026-10-27: Arizona average $4.50 regular, $6.34 diesel; we add 10% at the high end for stations near the park [A] |
| Campgrounds (6 nights) | $230–$510 | $230–$510 | Low: 3 nights at Mather ($30, Recreation.gov) plus RV parks near Phoenix, Sedona/Cottonwood and Williams (~$35–50 [A]). High: private parks with hookups at ~$80–90 a night, and Trailer Village ($80–85) once it reopens [A] |
| Park entry (US residents) | $35 | $35 | Grand Canyon charges $35 a vehicle (7 days). A pass only pays off if you add other fee parks |
| Kits, prep, cleaning, generator | $50–$370 | $50–$370 | Low: a marketplace listing with kits included plus a cleaning fee [A]. High: fleet example — $50 prep, $125 vehicle kit, 2 × $75 personal kits, generator $8/night × 6 |
| Insurance / protection | $175–$280 | $210–$350 | RVshare's own budgeting guide: about $25–40 a day for a campervan, $30–50 for a Class C. Fleet rates usually include basic cover; upgrades cost extra [A] |
| Taxes and service fees | $120–$490 | $170–$690 | Low: Phoenix rental tax 16.55% on the base rate (fleet fee sheet) — the highest of our five hubs. High: tax plus a 10–12% marketplace service fee (Outdoorsy: 10%) [A] |
| Airport ↔ depot transfer (both ways) | $40–$120 | $40–$120 | Taxi or rideshare between PHX and the depot, both ways [A — not checked] |
| Total, US residents | $1,470–$4,105 | $1,945–$5,175 | Sum of the lines above [A] |
| Park entry, visitors from outside the US | +$200 | +$200 | Grand Canyon charges non-US residents (16+) $100 per person on top of the $35 — $235 for two at the gate, replacing the $35 US entry above (so +$200 at both ends). The $250 Non-Resident Annual Pass costs $15 more but covers other parks for 12 months; the totals use the cheaper gate price, as the calculator does |
| Total, visitors from outside the US | $1,670–$4,305 | $2,145–$5,375 | Sum including the non-resident park cost [A] |
| Line | Campervan | Class C |

Grand Canyon water emergency (2026)
Since August 31, 2026 the South Rim has been under Stage 4 water restrictions. Mather Campground is open for dry camping only, Trailer Village (normally $80–85 a night with full hookups) is closed until further notice, and showers and laundry are closed. NPS projects a phased return of overnight services around Thanksgiving, with about 45 days to refill the tanks — tentative. Fill your fresh-water tank before you leave Flagstaff or Williams.
One-way instead of a loop?
Fleet one-way fees run $350–750 depending on route (Cruise America 2026 terms). The chart we checked lists Phoenix → Las Vegas at $500 [A — confirm for your dates]. That lets you add Zion and Bryce and fly home from Las Vegas — see the Las Vegas cost breakdown.
